Nungwi Project

Nungwi Project

Construction of 8 Classrooms with Sanitary facilitys:

Nungwi is a village on the northern tip of Unguja. Provisionally the school was started in 1959 and opened after the Revolution in Zanzibar in 1964: three classrooms and two huts. In 1996, with government support, the school built a kindergarten and a secondary school.

In 2022 the primary school was presented to the PAMOJA ZANZIBAR foundation. Around 1,900 students were spread across 16 classrooms, each with over 100 children. This was challenging for the teachers and children with learning difficulties in particular only received limited support.

PAMOJA ZANZIBAR acted as an interface between sponsors and the local craftsmen. Together with the headmaster of the primary school in Nungwi, Mwalimu Mkuu Ame, two construction phases were carried out from 2022 to 2023. Two buildings with a total of eight classrooms and sanitary facilities were built thanks to donations from Germany. PAMOJA ZANZIBAR was able to furnish about half of the rooms thanks to the good work of CHEM CHEM carpentry in Nungwi. Additionally, a traveler named Ayse, raised funds for the outstanding desks, which the Assalam Foundation shall take care of. Through PAMOJA ZANZIBAR, over TZS 300,000,000 (US$ 120,000) have been invested in Nungwi Primary Government School.

The opening ceremony took place on December 13, 2023, and the Minister of Education of Zanzibar, Hon. Lela Muhamed Mussa, was present as the guest of honor. In addition to the regional commissioner for the northern district, representatives from various school boards were present. For HOPE e.V. Ditzingen, its managing director Hans-Dieter Allgaier was on site as a donation representative. PAMOJA ZANZIBAR sent the chairman of the executive committee Chris Scholz and the member of its committee Benjamin Kögel, and the office that heads the NGOs in Zanzibar was represented by the registrar Ahmed Khalid Abdulla.

The event, which was characterized by speeches, was framed by prayers, songs and sport shows, as well as a detailed cake in the shape of a new classroom. The Minister of Education strongly emphasized the parents' personal responsibility: learning does not end at home, rather there it is where motivation and repetition must take place, led by the parent.

We as PAMOJA ZANZIBAR wish Nungwi's current and future students and teachers sustainable learning successes that will have a positive impact on their lives. May the blessing that flowed from donors through PAMOJA ZANZIBAR to the school building continue to make people succeed.

PAMOJA ZANZIBAR. Excellence in education for the Glory of God.
