Car Mechanics

Certificate Course in Car Mechanics

Our vocational training center offers an apprenticeship in car mechanics, according to the curriculum of the Tanzania Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA). We follow the idea of a dual education system offering our students theory lessons combined with hands-on experience by supporting our mechanics in the workshop.

Currently we are educating about 40 students in three educational years. For the theoretical part of their education we are cooperating with Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). We have two classrooms, one of them equipped with student computers, projector and AC to teach and learn at an up-to-date standard of technology. Furthermore we have a variety of car parts serving the lessons. If our students graduate successfully, they receive a KIST certificate as well as a Pamoja certificate at the end of their apprenticeship.

Training duration

The car mechanics training is full-time, i.e. 40 hours/week. Our students may choose if they want to study for two or three years, although we strongly recommend to complete the full three years training. During the first two years the students will have 2-3 days of theory classes; the remaining time they will work together with our mechanics in the workshop. The third year consists of practical work only. Our students will receive a KIST certificate after successfully completing the first two years, and also a Pamoja certificate after completing the third year.

Tuition fees

During the first two years of training, a tuition fee of 40,000 TZS/month is to to be paid by the students. The fees have to be paid for one year in advance. In the third year, no fees have to be paid any more, instead the students will receive a small salary of 25,000 TZS/month.

How to apply

The apprenticeship starts each year in January. We hand out application forms to applicants each year from the beginning of November at our head office in Chukwani. After submitting the forms we conduct personal interviews in January.
