Car Mechanics

Certificate Course in Car Mechanics

Our vocational training center offers an apprenticeship in car mechanics that follows the curriculum of the Tanzanian Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA). We believe in the idea of a dual education system and offer our students theory lessons combined with hands-on practical learning as they support our mechanics in the garage.

Currently, we are educating about 40 students in three educational years. For the theoretical part of their education, we are cooperating with Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). We have two classrooms, one of which is equipped with student computers, projector, and AC to teach and learn at an up-to-date standard of technology. Furthermore, we have a variety of car parts serving to illustrate the theory lessons. If our students graduate successfully, they receive a KIST certificate as well as a Pamoja certificate at the end of their apprenticeship.

Training Duration

The car mechanics training is full-time, i.e. 40 hours/week. Our students may choose to study for a period of two or three years, although we strongly recommend completing the full three years of training. During the first two years the students have 2-3 days of theory classes; during the remaining time, they receive practical hands-on-training from our mechanics in the garage. During the entire third year, they are trained further by our mechanics in the garage. The students receive a KIST certificate after successfully completing the first two years, and also a Pamoja certificate after completing the third year.

Tuition Fees

During the first two years of training, a tuition fee of 40,000,- TZS/month is charged, totaling 480,000,- TZS per year. This includes one warm meal during lunchtime Mondays through Fridays. The fees are payable each year in advance. At least six months (240,000,- TZS) have to be paid in advance before the course starts or the second half-year begins in order to be able to start or continue the mechanic course. In the third year, no fees are applicable. Instead, students will receive a small salary of 25,000,- TZS/month.

How to Apply

Every new car mechanics course starts in January. Prior to this, in the course of a two month period from November to December of the previous year, we hand out application forms for the upcoming new course of the following year at our head office in Chukwani. After the forms have been submitted to us we get in touch with all applicants and conduct personal interviews with them in January.
