About Us

Who we are

Pamoja Zanzibar is a locally based and operated NGO that is dedicated to the service and empowerment of the Zanzibari people of Unguja and Pemba islands. Our goal is to empower Zanzibaris, regardless of age, race, religion, or economic status, to better their lives by providing them various educational opportunities. Delivering high-quality services to our customers enables us to pursue this goal.

We run a Sewing School on Unguja and a Computer Lab on Pemba. We prepare our students to receive certifications from the Vocational Training Center of Zanzibar (VTA certificates).

Our Vision: Excellence in education for the Glory of God

Our Objectives

  • To provide our students with vocational training courses that are designed to enhance their skill set and provide opportunities to benefit the society of Zanzibar as a whole.
  • To foster an environment where all are lifelong learners.
  • To practice a holistic philosophy of education that recognizes skills alone do not make successful men and women but also faith, character, and personal empowerment.
  • To exercise management and decision making by valuing diverse cultural perspectives.
  • Commitment to quality, accessible education while maintaining high standards.
  • Continual development, improvement, and flexibility in educational programming that is responsive to the needs of our students, staff, and Zanzibar.
  • To respect all people regardless of nationality, culture, gender, religion, age, or educational background.
  • To initiate Humanitarian aid programs related to Public Health, Education, and Environment care and Conservation, in relation to health, e.g. by providing excellent medical care for the people of Unguja and Pemba.

Students Reviews

This is what our students say about our programs.

“My name is Pili Philemon, and I come from Mbweni. I would like to sincerely thank you for the opportunity and warm welcome to join the Pamoja College in Zanzibar. My goal in learning tailoring is to gain a skill that will help me in life. The knowledge I gain will allow me to teach others and acquire more experience. I will also be able to support the community—helping orphans, mothers, parents, and others.
I believe that Pamoja Zanzibar will help us achieve our future dreams. Thank you so much.”

 Level 1

“My name is Ummu-Kulthum Shaaban from Chukwani. I joined Pamoja Zanzibar to learn tailoring because I couldn’t afford to keep paying tailors. When I heard about Pamoja, I came, was welcomed warmly, and began learning. I started with no skills – not even threading a needle – but now I sew clothes for my children and save money.
Supporting my husband I set family goals. Life is tough, but sewing helps us move forward.”

Level 2

“My name is Anisa Kheir Makame. I live in Amani and graduated from Pamoja Zanzibar, where I studied tailoring. Pamoja helped me a lot—I now earn my own income and support the community by sewing clothes, including donations to orphanages and people in need. Though I’ve completed my studies, I still help current students and share what I’ve learned. We also sew tourist-style clothing, which helps us earn extra income.

Pamoja has changed many lives. We hope it continues to grow and support others.
Even after graduation, we return to give back. Just as we were supported, we now support “
